Computer History

  • First freely programable computer

    First freely programable computer
Konrad Zuse was called the "inventor of the modern computer." He invented it to help him with his lengthy engineering calculations. He knew that he neeed an automatic-calculator, it needed three basic elements: a control, memory, and a calculator for the arithmetic. I think this was a milestone because this is what started the calculator. Which is a big deal, because now we have calculators that can help many people with their jobs.
  • The havard Mark 1 computer

    The havard Mark 1 computer
Howard Aiken and Grace Hopper designed the MARK series of computers. This was like a room full of noisy, metal parts, 55 feet long and 8 feet high. It was used in the US Navy for gunnery and ballistic calculators. This was a pre-ounched paper tape (addition, subtraction, multipication, division, and reference to prvious results). I think this was a milesotne because it helped the navy with things that are useful.
  • First commercial computer

    First commercial computer
about inventors This is called the Universal Automatic Computer or UNIVAC, it was a milestone on computers. This was by Presper Eckert and Dr. John Mauchly. The Census Bureau was the first client they ever had.
  • The first successful high level programming language

The first successful high level programming language
Invented by John Backus for IBM, it is still used today for programming scientific and mathematical applications. It began as a digital code interperter. This was a milestone because it still helps us today, which is amazing.
  • First game

    First game
Steve Russell, who went to MIT, invented spacewar. In the game was a two person tennis and OXO. It took them 20 man hours. This was a milestone, because it is used today still. Now, it is more advanced though. This is the thing that started it though.
  • The mouse

    The mouse
It was nick-nammed the mouse because of the tail that sticked out of it. It was intended at first a graphical user interface. The "X-Y position indicator for a display system." This is a milestone because it is easier to click on things then just with the mouse pad.
  • The worlds first avalible DRAM chip

The worlds first avalible DRAM chip
Dynamic Random Access Memory chip, 1K bit. Then, it was the best selling chip in the world. The first commercially available computer using HP 9800 series. This was a milestone because it was the first ever DRAM chip which was defeating magnetic core type memory.
  • The world's first single chip microprocessor

The world's first single chip microprocessor
Intel invented the first single chip microprocessor. They took central processing unit, memory, input and output and put it into one small chip. This was a milestone because it is used now in computers still, and now more advanced to create better technology.
  • A revolution in personal computers

    A revolution in personal computers
This was known as the "prject chess." Tweleve engineers made the computer called PC which stands for personal computer. They took Bill Gates Microsoft, which is how this operating system started. I think this is a milestone, because this is how, and when the PC was invented. Which lead to so many things.
  • The more affordable home computer and a GUI

The more affordable home computer and a GUI
This was a more affordable computer that had windows, pull-down menus, clickable buttons, scroll bars, icons, images, and a mouse. They were not graphical or visual. They were all text and keyboard commends. This was a milestone because now you were able to buy this computer because of the affordable cost.
