The Z1 computer was the first freely programmable computer. It was invented by Konrad Zuse and was destroyed in World War 2. This is important because it's where computers started. It was the first computer and was built upon. It's purpose was to do math problems, but could do much more. -

ENIAC 1
This was created by John Mauchly and John Eckert. It was paid and created for the military so they could calculate artillery-firing tables. They used 20,000 vacuum tubes to speed up the calculations. This is really interesting because it helped the military a lot. -
Transistor
The Transistor is a device used to switch and amplify electrical signals. It was created by John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and Wiliam Shockley. This is important because it is the fundemental building block of many modern inventions, including computers! -
LEO
The Lyons Electronic Office was Englands first commercial computer. It was owned by the president of Lyon's Tea Co. and was built to solve the scheduling and production of cakes shipped to the Lyon's Tea shop. This shows how many different things computers were used for back in hte day. -
Spacewar
Spacewar was the first computer game invented. Steve Russell created it. It was a two player game where you could score by firing missels and avoiding the gravitational pull of the sun. This is cool because we have so many computer games now that its hard to imagine the very first one. -
Mouse
This is when the computer mouse was invented by Douglas Engalbart. He changed the way computers work from very ocmplicated to very user-friendly.Nicknamed "mouse" because it looks like it has a tail. I put this on my timeline because without a mouse the computer would be much harder to navigate. -
Floppy Disk
The Floppy Disk was invented by Alan Shugart. A floppy disk is a storage disk made of small flexible magnetic storage. This is important because it was the first real storage and computers could hold more. -
Apple Inc.
Apple was invented by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. It produces electronics and software like the iPod, iPad, Mac computer ect. As of 2011 it is the largest technology firm in the world. I put this on my timeline becuase it is a huge part of our world today. People all over have apple products. -
Microsoft Windows
With the creation of Microsoft Windows came scroll bars, icon menus, drop down menus and many more things. It was first called interface Manager. I included this because it has been built on a ton and is very useful. There are many new versions. -
Yahoo
Yahoo was founded by two Standford graduate students. It is now one of the most popular search engines on the internet. It is widely used today for email, searching, and news!
