    The Cold War was a state of tension between 2 countries without actual fighting. It was from 1945-1989. It took place in the U.S.S.R (Russia). This event was important to history because the Cold War we created a lot of different things that would help other countries if they needed help. It impacted politics because it was Communism versus Democracy.
  • Baby Boom

    Baby Boom
    In 1945-1954 the birthrate increased tremendously in the US. The population grew to 29 million in the 1950s from 9 million in the 1930s. This made up for the lost time during the Great Depression and WW2. This was too expensive and/or too difficult. This made an impact because then there were more babies being born then people were dying. This was important because then in 1940s-1950s there was better health care for children and pregnant women.
  • Truman Doctrine/Marshal Plan

    Truman Doctrine/Marshal Plan
    The Truman Doctrine gave $400 million in military aid for Greece and Turkey to stop communism from spreading there in March 1947. The Marshal Plan was set up by George Marshal. This sent $12 billion in aid to rebuild Western Europe from WW2 in April 1948. This event is important because these helped rebuild cities that were blown down and helped with military aid. This impacted America because then Communism may still be spreading and some of Western Europe may still not be rebuilt.

    Rosa Parks
    Rosa was born in 1913 in AL. She is so widely known because she refused to surrender her bus seat the a white passenger when he asked for her seat. She was arrested. There was an effort to end segregation and Jim Crow Laws. They started integrating buses after a year of boycotting. She joined the NAACP. She is important because she helped stop the segregation that happened on buses. Her impact was because the Montgomery bus boycott introduced non violent protest as a method for social equality.

    On Friday, November 22nd, 1963 in Dallas, Texas our President JFK was in an open car with cheering crowds. JFK slumped back in his seat because he had been shot in the head with his wife next to him. The assassin was named Harvey from Textbook Warehouse. Kennedy died at 2:00 EST at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. This had an impact because then we started having secret service with everyone who is running or in office. The importance is that we still use JFK's speeches today and remember them.

    This was set up by Social Security Administration in 1965. This gave governments money to help low income people of all ages with medical bills. Candidates included, deaf, blind, aged, disabled, and pregnant women. The importance was medicaid is the largest source of funding for medical services for people with low income in the US. The impact was benefits vary state to state, and because someone qualifies for medicaid in 1 state, it does not mean they will qualify in another.

    Medicare
    Medicare was started by President Lyndon Johnson in 1966. Us gov't helps pay the hospital bills of citizens over the age of 65. Medicare covers about half the health care charges. The enrollees must then cover the remaining charges either with their own insurance or pay with their own money. The impact was because older adults paid more than 3 times as much for health insurance as younger people.

    Martin Luther King's Assassination
    On April 4th, 1968 MLK visited Memphis, TN to support black sanitation workers on strike. At the Lorraine Motel room 306 MLK was shot by James Earl Ray. MLK was shot in the right side of his jaw & severed his spinal cord. Ray shot MLK cuz he wanted to silence the leader of American's non-violent civil rights. The impact was The Civil Rights Movement ended with his assassination. The importance is his famous quotes are at his memorial in D.C. and he is a very good role model to to look up to.
  • Gerald Ford

    Gerald Ford
    Gerald Ford was a republican and was our president from 1974-1976. He was part of the Michigan Congressman for 25 years. His impact was his pardoning with Richard Nixon. He is important because started trade with the Soviet Union and part of the women commission investing JFK's assassination.
  • Bill Clinton

    Bill Clinton
    Bill Clinton was our president from 1992-2000. He is a Democrat and was the Governor of Arkansas. His impact was to lower deficit. He is important because he helped the health care reform. He sent 20,000 troops to Bosnia ha also signed Test Ban Treaty for nukes. This is to lower how many nukes we make and how many we test. He is also the 2nd president to be put on trial but he ended up staying in office.
  • George W. Bush

    George W. Bush
    George W. Bush was our president from 2000-2008. He is a Republican and was the Governor of Texas. His impact was September 11, 2001. He is important because of the War in Terror. Saddam Hussein was executed. He also helped with tax relief. He also started "No Child Left Behind," which meant that there would be no more segregating of schools and everyone should get the same amount of education as everyone else.

    Hurricane Katrina
    Hurricane Katrina happened on August 29, 2005. This was a category 5 (157 mph winds) and when it hit it was a category 3 (115-130 mph winds) winds gusted up to 175 mph. It affected 90,000 square miles. This hit in New Orleans and 80% of it was flooded. The levee failed was why it was flooded. The impact was that 70 countries pledged monetary donations.
  • Barack Obama Inauguration

    Barack Obama Inauguration
    Barrack Obama was our 44th president of the United States. He took his inauguration speech in Washington D.C. on Tuesday January 20, 2009. He impacted the US because he is the 1st African American to be president. The importance was that there were 1 million attendees and millions more watching. He took the Oath of Offices from John Roberts and his wife Michelle Obama was holding the bible which was used by Abraham Lincoln. Tickets were $1,750 to $20,000 per person.
