Chinese Revolution

  • Five Anti Camaign

    This campaign sought to end five specific values. Bribery, Theft of state porperty, tax evasion, cheating on government contracts, and stealing of state economic information. Many government spies showed themselves to spy on capitalists and discover if they have done any of these crimes. People who were accused could be exucuted and humiliated. It was one of the first steps to the end of the capitalist influences left in China.

    The Hundred FLowers Campaign

    This campaign led by Mao was designed to let the public speak freely and encouraged them to take action through public posters and such devices. The campaign was a utter failure and ended in less than a year. It was apperntly to hard to control and all the people were going crazy with propaganda. However, it did lead to catalyze the anti rights campiagn as well as the cultural revolution.

    The Great Leap Forward

    1958 was the start of the Great Leap Forward which was a five year plan to increase industrialization and agriculture. It started out as a positive plan. However in 1959, things got ugly. Machinery that was being produced in the backyards of peoples homes were too weak and fell apart when used. Steel had the same problems with the buildings. The lack of machinery led almost 20 million chinese to starve. Even Mao said it was a disaster. Mao resigned from office after it eneded 2 years short.
  • The Sino-Soviet Split

    Mao formaly denpnounces the Soviet version of communism. This led to a great tense situation between the two ountries and the world of other communist countries was forced to choose which ideology to follow. However, the split did lead Nixon to create better relations with China and the US, leading to the trading partnerships we have today.

    The Cultural Revolution

    The Cultural revolution was statrted by Mao. It marked the return of mao into a position of power after the disastor which was the Great Leap Forward. Mao wanted to get rid of the alleged bourgeois parts of the hgovernment and wanted this through violent class struggles. Many people were injured and killed as well as publicy embarrssed and harrassed. He appeled greatly to teens at this time as well, who formed the Red Guard to support Mao. It ended with Mao's death in 1976
  • Downfall of the Gang of Four

    The Gang of Four were an anti-revolutionary group composed of Mao's last wife and her associates. There arrest marks the end of the Cultural Revolution. The group was accused of trying to sieze control after the death of Mao and was arrested. The whole country rejoiced, as this event marked the end of a policitcal hardship.
