  • Manchu attack

    China needed the help of mercenaries. Once the Manchu were let in they attacked and conquered China.

    Fall of Qing

    Europe began to expand over large part of Asia.The most devastating blow was the Opium wars. Other places such as Japan also took teritorries.

    Kangxi rule

    First emperor dies in 1661. His son take over and rules for 61 years. He was a very hardworking emperor making sure everything was right.

    Yongzheng rules

    Kangxi dies in 1772. His son Yongzheng takes over. His main focus was encouragein education.

    Problems with trade

    China only acceptss silver for its goods. All is good until France and England run low on silver. They begin to trade the addictive Opium.

    Opium Wars

    The opium wars began because China banned opium trade. Since this was the only way Britain made money they did not take it well. They ended up going to war with China and winning.

    War

    Treaty of Nanking ends the Opium war. Qing add more trading posts in exchange for Hong Kong. The British ask for more and another war begins with the loss of China again.

    Taiping rebellion

    Rebellions arise because of increasing problems. Begins in 1850 when Hong Xiuang and his followers want to reform Chinese traditions.

    Empress Cixi

    Emperor Xiangfeng dies in 1861. She influences emperors greatlt.
  • Cixi fires the grand council

    Cixi ruled between 1861 to 1908. She decides to fire the Grand council in 1884.
