    Qing Dynasty

    The Qing, originally, were the Manchu, who lived north of the Great Wall during the Ming dynasty. When the Ming allowed the Manchu entrance to china as mercenaries, they took advantage of a weakened china and took the capital becoming the new rulers of china under the Qing name. The Qing kept most political and social aspects of the government the same but made vast economical changes that resulted in a larger income to China.
  • Kangxi, Emperor

    Kangxi becomes emperor after the first emperor died. He ruled for 61 years and encouraged painting, literature, etc.
  • yongzheng

    when Kangxi died his son, Yongzheng, took the throne and encouraged learning. He encouraged learning so much that he had an encyclopedia with 10,0000 chapters made.
  • Qianlong

    Yongzheng's son began to reign in 1736 until 1796. During his reign Qianlong brought the empire to its highest point, increasing wealth through foreign trade, and rice production also increased.

    The chinese wanted their traded goods to be paid for in silver instead of foreign goods, but the Europeans, mainly britain and france, did not like this very much because their silver was leaving their countries.

    China's emperor Hong Xiuquan madeOpium illegal. Since Britain depended on Opium they went to war in order to force trade from China. Britain ended up winning and weakening China.

    The chinese sing a treaty that ends the first opium war but requires that they build more trading post and give up japan. however, the british are still not satiesfied and try to add more to the treaty but the chinese do not like this and the second opium war begins and end in a chinese defeat.
  • Taiping rebellion

    Hong Xiuquan and his followers rebelled in an attempt to brinng back old chinese traditions but the Qing won with the help of british and french troops.

    Empress Dowager Cixi

    After emperor Xianfeng died the Empress influnced the new emperors greatly and made the rule more hers than that of the emperors. At some point she fire the whole grand council and even crushed attempts at reform.

    The chinese and the Japanese both wanted control over china and after a few fights they went to war but the chinese lost because the japanese had adopted the new fighting techniques while the chinese had not.
  • The Boxer rebellion

    A group of rebels from the society of harmonious fist did not like the fact that there were many foreignors in the country so they attacked foreign missions to try and kick the foreignors out of china.
  • Europe wins

    The Europeans trying to protect their intersts sent troops to china to fight the rebellion and since Cixi supported the rebellion she flees to Xian.
