  • Great Leap Forward Begins

    This was a five year plan to improve and develop China's agricultural business and their industry. China was divided into communes (usually made up of 5000 families). Each of the communes took ownership of tools and animals and people now worked to help support the commune instead of just supporting themselves. However a year after the plan was put into action it took a bad turn when the government started asking too much of the communes. Leading to issues
  • Split from Soviet Union

    This event took place from 1960- 1989 as the politcal relationship between the Soviets and China began to get worse. It began when Mao Zedong came forward with a negative attitude towards capitalist countries which was a rejection of peaceful coexistence. This all took place during the Cold War and had quite a big impact on that as well.
  • Cultural Revolution Begins

    The Cultural Revolution in China took place from May of 1966 to 1976. It was a social and political movement thats goal was "to preserve true communist ideology" in order to get rid of capitalists.
  • Mao Writes Letter To REd Gaurds

    Mao wrote a letter to a group of studnet Red Guards as an act of appreciation. This caused a spark in other students to become Red Gaurds and do what they believed was right. Many Red Gaurd groups were formed.
  • Red Gaurd Campaigns

    The Red Gaurds initiated two campaigns. One was "The Camaign To Destroy The Four Olds" which was supposed to destroy old traditions, ideals and customs. The second was a camaign to establish a "revolutionary network" in which Red Guards traveled the country assaulting authorities.
  • Mao Zedong Dies

    Be the leader during this Cultural Revolution his death was significant in how the country would now be.
