750 AD The first great English epic poem, Beowulf, is written in Old English. The work is anonymous and untitled until 1805. Althought the date is unknown, In the late 8th Century the decades long war between the Frankish Empire and the Saxon Tribes. By killing 4,500 of saxon prisioners this leaves a lasting, impressive reputaion of Charlemagne.
This is signifigant because three years later the Franks won, and forced the Saxons to convert to Christianity.
