    Hernando Cortes arrived in Tenochtitlan and allied with Tlaxcala, which were enemies of the Aztec Empire. The spanish forces fought the empire which weakened both parties involved.

    Fall of Tenochtitlan
    The current leader, Cuitahuac died from a smallpox epidemic. Cortes took advantage of this and defeated the Aztec Empire after they surrendered. He later rebuilt the city as Mexico City.
