    1948 War
    Israel decalred independence. Eygpt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria attacked Israel. Israel obtained land.. Eygpt gained the Gaza Strip.
    Jordan obtained the West back and East Jerusalem. Hundreds of tousands of Palestinians and Jews becam refugees.
  • Six Day War/The 1967 War

    Six Day War/The 1967 War
    Egypt blockaded Israel. Egypt Jordan, Syria and Iraq moved troops to Israel'w borders and made threatening statements. Israel launched a preemptive strike.
    Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria, and the Gaza Strip and all of the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt. More Palestinians and Jews became refugees. Terrorism became more common.

    Israelis built settlements on captured Palestinian land for protection.
    There are now about 300,000 people settled in West Bank settlements. This makes it harder for Palestinians to travel into the West Bank, and harder for negotiations over land.

    Israel Gained Land from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Arab nations denied negotiating with Israel. Then the arabs fought Isral for Eygpt.
    Jordan removed the Palestinians. The Palestinians moved thier home base to Lebanon.

    Lasted from 1967 to 1970. Egypt and Asia attacked Israel. The united States convinced Isreal to retreat and writhdraw their forces.
    As a result, Israel thought they could be invaded after the war. They regained the terroritories capture in 1967, but they did not keep and additonal land.

    Egypt and Israel Sign a Peace Agreement
    Egypt became the first Arab country to recognize Israel. Israel gave back some of Egypt's land and removed Jewish families from the land.
    This set up a "land for peace" model for peace treaties

    The 1982 Lebanon War
    Palestinian Liberation Organization attacked northern Israel. Israel withdrew their troops from Lebanon and maintained a military presence in southern Lebanon.
    The renewed terrorsits attacks from southern Lebanon led to the second Lebanon war ijn 2006.

    The rebellion of Palestinians against Israel in the Gaxa Strip and the West Bank. Continued until the Oslo Accords.
    This led to the Oslo Accords.
  • The Oslo Accords

    The Oslo Accords
    Oslo Accords were a set of agreements. Israel and Palestinian Liberation Orginazation signed the Declaration of Principles. Oslo Accords led to the creation of the Palestinian authority. Oslo accords left Israel to defend itself and its citizens. The PLO recognized Israel and Israel recognized PLO as well. Both were in a peaceful coexitance with each other.
    However, Israel and PLO accussed each other for not fullfilling their obligations by not giving land to each other

    Israel and Jordan sign a Peace Treaty
    The U.S. helped Jordan and Israel sign a peace treaty, and Jordan became the second Arab Nation to recognize Israel.
    This helped these two nations with economy, tourism and many other things.
  • The Camp David Summit

    It was an attempt by president Bill Clinton to negotiate peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
    However, peaces was not odtained and it reulted in furthering the conflict.
  • The Second Intifada

    Started with Israeli General Ariel Sharon visiting the Jewish Temple Mount, which is revered by both muslims and Jews. the muslims saw this as a provocation. This caused Israelis to get terrorized and muslims to get killed. Many civillians on both sides were also killed.
    This caused more tensions between both nations, and the deaths of many civillians. It is also still going on.
  • Arab Peace Initiative is Proposed

    Arab Peace Initiative is Proposed
    Crown Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia proposed a peace initiative where Israel returns all the territories captured from the 1967 war, recognizes an independent Palestine, and East Jerusalem as their capital. Israel accepts all demands except for giving back territories
    This is seen as an improvement in the relations

    This is an ongoing event. Israel is building a security barrior that seperates citizens from terrorsits. It was a fence that was made to stop terrorist attacks from the West Bank.
    This however caused more problems for the Palestinians who nedded to cross the border
  • The Roadmap For Peace is Proposed

    The Roadmap For Peace is Proposed
    It was a plan for peace that was proposed in 2003 by the quartet, the US, Russia, Europe union, and the United Nations. It tells the steps to make Palestine an independent state and a safe Israel. The Roadmap was immediatly stopped after the Palestinian election of Hamas.
    However, the Plaestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas. disbanded the governemnt controlled by the Hamas which led to negotiations vetweeen Palestine and Israel. The steps were reaffirmed at the Annapolis Confrence.
  • Israel Disengages from Gaza

    Israel Disengages from Gaza
    Prime minister Ariel Sharon wanted Israel to physically separate from Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip.
    This was criticized because it was not part of negotiations and did not require the removal of all West Bank settlements. This also caused more terrorist attacks
  • Hamas is Elected

    Hamas is Elected
    Palestininas elected Hamas members to the Palestinian authority's legislature over the previous party that had been in power. When Hamas was elected they called the dsetruction of Israel and the Jews. They did not accept previous palestinian-Israeli agreements.
    As a result, the Western Nations imposed sanctions and suspended their aid to the Palestinian Authority. However, tthey would remove these sacitions if Palestininas recognize Israel, violence, and accept Palestian-Israeli agreements
  • The 2006 Lebanon War

    The 2006 Lebanon War
    A terrorist group called Hezbollah that was supported by Iran and Syria attacked Israel. Israel retaliated. The Hezbollah used human shield tacticts, which caused civilian deaths.
    Ended with the the UN Cease Fire Resolution 1701 passed on August 11, 2006

    The Battle Of Gaza
    Lasted from May 26 to June 21. It was when Hamas militiants atacked the Fatch membersthroughtout Gaza. Mahmoud Abbas disperesed the Hamas government.
    As a result, there are two Palestinian governement. Hamas controls Gaza and the Palestinina aithorit controls the West Bank. Once the Hamas governemt was dissolved, Wester sactions were removed.

    Israel attacks Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip to try and stop rocket attacks and terrorism against Israel. Civillians were killed because many operations were based in urban areas.
    This led to the death of many civillians and the destruction of urban areas.

    Israel and Egypt began a blockade of Gaza after Hamsa took control form the Palestinian authority. They required all goods to be inspected before entering Gaza. The people argued that this want fair and they rebelled their orders.
    This led to a severe setback in the realtionship between Israel and Turkey, which had been allies.

    A political revolution for democracy. Protests have been in Tunisia, Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, LIbya, Oman, and other Middle Eastern countries.
    THis has caused political leaders in Tunisia and Egypt to step down as president. There are also many long term effects that are predicted.
