Anthony Johnson was african who was caught in the slave trade. In 1621, Johnson arrived in Virginia and started to work for a man named Richard Bennet.

On Good Friday, the Powhaten tribes of tidewater Virginia attacked the white colonists in a determined attempt to drive them from their land. Only 5 out of the 57 men survived the attack. One of these men was Johnson.
