In English Colonies, slavery was a very large style. Many landowners had slaves. As the years grew on, the Englishmen were getting more afraid of the slaves. The Englishmenm, then, slowly passed laws affecting the slaves. The people were still afraid of slaves so, they passed even harsher laws that tried to control slaves. When slavery just began, all of the slaves were treated fairly, but the progress of slaves were rising, so the people passed laws to slow the advance in slaves. -
Anthony Owns Land
A while after Anthony was freed, he bought his own land to make his own crops and wealth. He began to make his own way of life in the English colonies. He had his own cattle, can you belive that a slave owning his own cattle. As Anthony and his land prospered, he had some economic saftety unlike most other freed slaves. This was when the first laws were only just taking place, so Anthony was making very large progress with his family. -
Former Slave, Anthony Owns a Slave
Anthony's progress continues to progress as he wins his slave back in court. As Anthony carves his way in to the social life in the English colonies, this court case shows how much power his role plays in the colonies life. Anthony wins back his own slave even after he wants to go to Capt. Sam'll. This shows that in the early days, freed slaves still had a bit of power. -
Casual Killing of Slaves
Later, the Englishmen started passing laws to slowly diminish the slaves progress.The first law to show that the English were trying to control the slaves was the casual killing of slaves law. It allowed the slave owners to kill the slaves without getting charged. This law showed that the Engilsh slave owners were getting more afraid of outbreaks in salvery such as rebelions and riots. -
Runaway Slave Killing
As the Englishmen grew more cautious about slavery they passed even harsher laws to prevent slaves to escape. This law made it even harder to escape. Even if the slaves escaped they will be treated inhumanly by getting killed. If the slaves were caught then the people who captured them got a reward. Basically, the slaves were treated as animals and the people who captured them are hunters. -
Slaves Are Treated As Real Estate
The final law that was passed to try to control the slaves, was that they were treated as property or real estate. It showed that the English were getting more afraid and and they finally started to treat the slaves as inhumanly in the colonies. These laws were getting worse as the years grew on. They were passed out of fear and slowly enough, that the slaves were not noticing, so when the the laws grew harsher the slaves were trapped. -
Conclusion
The Englishpassed laws to enslave slaves. The laws were passed to show that the englishmen were not just passing laws out of caution, they were passing laws out of fear. Anthony later died, but his sons contied to live in the colonies. Anthony showed that slave , in the beginning, had a bit of power, almost as much as Englishmen. They passed laws, slowly at first, but then they stared to pass harsher and crueler laws to control the slaves. Why did the English try to control slaves?
