  • Elementary school (part 1)

I started elementary at Miwok Elementary in Petaluma. The school was fairly diverse. We were even taught in Spanish. I was fluently speaking Spanish by second grade.
  • Elementary school (part 2)

I moved to a "nicer" area and went to a "nicer" school. (Mark West) I was involved in GATE, but this is when the bullying began. I was "the poor kid." The academics were great, but the social atmosphere was not.
  • Middle school (part 1)

I went to the school that my rich elementary school funneled into. (Rincon Valley Middle) the bullying got worse, and but the end of seventh grade, I feared going to school every day. This school was also lacking in diversity.
  • Middle school (part 2)

I transferred to a different school for eighth grade, which was a much less affluent school. (Santa Rosa Middle) I was struggling because of things going on in my life at the time, so I finished eighth grade through the home-school program.
