  • South African Apartheid

    The word "Apartheid" means "separation" in Afrikaans. Apartheid is all about the racial segregation of White South Africans between the Black, Indian, or Bantu South Africans. Apartheid was a part of many things in everyday life. Everything from where to swim and where to go to the bathroom was decided by Apartheid.

  • Armenian Massacre

    The Armenian Genocide was an attack by the Turkish government against the Armenian people. It was carried out during WWI. The Armenian people were subjected to deportation, abduction and torture.
  • Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge

    Pol Pot lost the scholarship to Paris and returned to Cambodia with the knowledge of Marxism. He wanted to create a communist farming society, which resulted in 25% of the Cambodian population to die of starvation.
  • German Holocaust

    During the Holocaust, An estimate of 5,860.000 Jews and 5,000,000 non-Jewsish people were killed. This massive massacre was headed by the Nazi Party in Germany.
  • Soviet Purges

    A series of 3 widely publicized trials, and closed trials held in Soviet Union in the late 1930s that eliminated millions of alleged "Enemies of the People" under the direction of Joseph Stalin.
  • Rape of Nanjing

    Japanese troops captured the Chinese city of Nanjing and embarked on a campaign of murder, rape and looting. Between 250,00 and 300,000 people were killed, many of them women and children.
  • My Lai Massacre

    The 11th Brigade entered Vietnam in the village of My Lai and masscred many of the villagers. America found out about it 1 year later.
  • Chile under Augusto Pinochet

    General Augusto Pinochet became dictator in 1974. While in power he executed over 3,000 people and a further 250,000 people were detained for political reasons.
  • Uganda under Idi Amin

    Amin was known as the "Butcherer of Uganda": Who murdered an estimate of 300,000 people, including journalists, lawyers, homosexuals, students, and senior bureaucrats. He expelled all Asians from Uganda.
  • Missing People during the Dirty War in Argentina

    Hector Febres was accused of torturing prisoners of war and being responsible for the abuction of hundreds of newborn babies. The Dirty War lasted from 1976 to 1983.
  • Irag under Saddam Hussein

    Saddam Hussein was put into power in 1963, after being exiled for a number of years to flee the Iraqi government after he had tried to assasinate the prime minister of Iraq. Hussein used brutalality and force to govern his people. Since his people were not only scared of him but Iran too, he used this as a strategy to stay in power for as long as he could. The people knew he was the only person to protect them from their enemies. During his reign, over 180,000 people were executed.
  • Somalia Civil War

    Many different clans in Somalia rose up to fight each other. Kidnapping, murder, and other threats led to an estimated 350,000 to 1 million Samolian deaths. Starvation also led to many deaths. After the attacks of September 11, 2001 on the U.S, the U.S took an active role fearing that it would be a safe haven for terrorists.
  • Genocide in Basnia and Herzegovina

    The tension in the fight for control in Basnia and Herzegovina was at an all time high when the Bosnia Croats and the Bosnian Serbs rose up against the Bosnian Musilims over 200,000 Bosnian Muslims were executed by the Bosnian Serb army.
  • Rwanda Genocide

    The Genocide started with the death of Rwandan president Juvenal Habyarimana. This caused a riot by the hutus and they started to massacre the tutsis. In the space of 100 days an estimated 800,00 Rwandans were killed.
  • Sierra Leone and the Child Soldiers

    Sierra Leone is forcing children including demobalized childer, to become child soldiers and engage in combat. Since they took United Nations peacekeepers hostage, RUF has forced many children to join there ranks.
  • Darfur Conflict

    The Sudan Liberation Army and Justice and Equality Movement began attacking government targets in early 2003. The government responded by creating "Self Defence" Malitias.
