The temple was built to worship the greek godess Athena, however in the process of building it was burnt down by the Persian army. Athens started builing the temple after in 447 BCE when the Athenian Empire was at the height of it's power. Pericles wa born in Athens, Greece in 495 BCE his father was a wealthy and famous statesmen. Pericles entered polotics around 470 BCE and became to rule athens in 461 BCE. You could get the death penalty for stealing something as small as a cabbage. In 584 BCE a man named Solon became the sole leader of Athens, he changed all the written laws that Draco had put in place except for one. Solons new code made sure that all debts were abolished and all slaves thet were debt were freed. Solons Constitution was wrote in poetry, and as soon as he introduced it he sent himslef in to 10 years of exile so he wasn't tempted to become a tryrant, his code of laws stayed for a while after he had left.
