    Old Kingdom

    Khufu is the most famous pharaoh of the Old Kingdom. Pharaohs were considered to be Gods and ruler of all the land.

    Old Kingdom

    Nobles (most are priests) are from rich and powerful families. Also, they were right below the Pharaoh in society. Farmers,slaves, and servants made up 80% of the society.Traders would require gold,copper,ivory, and stone for pyramids.

    Old Kingdom

    Afterlife (life after death) was important to the Egyptians and it was thought to be a happy place. Leave the heart in the body, the Ka or lifeforce left their body and becomes their soul. Method of Mummification restores the body, Only elite or wealthy got mummified. Poor were put in shallow graves.

    Old Kingdom

    Pyramids were to bury and show significance of ruler, the bigger the better. 4 triangle shaped sides with a point on top. The Great Pyramid of Khufu, the largest. Egyptians used engineering to build pyramids with scientific knowledge for practical purposes.

    Old Kingdom

    Pyramids size and shape were symbiotic to the Pharaoh and his journey to the afterlife. Even after Pharaohs death people believed that the Pharaohs happiness was connected to their good fortune in life.

    The Middle Kingdom

    At the end of the Old Kingdom the Pharaohs power and wealth declined.Pharaohs couldn't collect enough taxes to keep up. Ambitious nobles took over different areas. So no central ruler for 160 years.
  • 2050 BCE

    The Middle Kingdom

    A powerful Pharaoh took control again in 2050 until about 1750 BC.So Egypt was once again reunited. Middle Kingdom- a period of stability.

    The Middle Kingdom

    Hyksos (group from Southwest Asia) used horses, chariots, and weapons to conquer lower egypt. This lasted for about 200 years.
  • 1580 BCE

    The New Kingdom

    The Sinai Peninsula had valuable supplies of turquoise and copper.Queen Hatshepsut was a ruler that worked to increase trade. Sent trader south to trade with the Kingdom of Punt and north to trade with people in Asia Minor and Greece. Hatshepsut and other pharaohs used trade money to build. Hatshepsut was mainly known for her great monuments near the city of Thebes.

    The New Kingdom

    Military conquests made Egypt rich and powerful. Nubia sent yearly payments. Assyrian, Babylonian, and Hittite kings sent expensive gifts to keep good relations with Egypt. When Egypt extended so did trade.

    The New Kingdom

    Started up when Ahmose of Thebes took over all of Egypt. This was a period of time when Egypt reached the height of its power and glory. Conquest and trade brought wealth to pharaohs.

    The Middle Kingdom

    Ahmose of Thebes claimed himself as king and drove Hyksos out of Egypt so ruled all of Egypt.

    When Ahmose drove the Hyksos out that ended this era so when he took control it started a new era for Egypt.
  • 1400 BCE

    The New Kingdom

    Egypt leaders feared future invasions. So they took control of all possible invasion routes. They targeted the homeland of Hyksos first. They kept taking over land that eventually they took over the entire eastern shore of the Mediterranean. They also took over the Kingdom of Kush. By 1400s they had the leading military power. It extended from the Euphrates river to southern Nubia.
  • 1200 BCE

    The New Kingdom

    Even though Egypt has a strong military they still faced threats. the pharaoh Ramses 2 fought the Hittites. They fought for years but neither won. They had threats from Tehenu but Ramses fought them off. After Ramses died invaders called Sea people took over the Hittites. However Egypt still survived but the Empire in Asia was gone. They the Hittites and Sea people took over Ancient Egypt.
