    A German U-boat torpedoed and sank the RMS Lusitania, a British ocean liner that was in route from New York to Liverpool, England. Of the more than 1,900 passengers and crew members on board, more than 1,100 died, including more than 120 Americans. This was one of the reasons why Americans wanted to join the war

    Influenza (flu) epidemic
    the Influenza epidemic killed somewhere between 20 and 40 million people. The effect of the influenza epidemic was so severe that the average life span in the US was depressed by 10 years. The physicians of the time were helpless against this powerful agent of influenza.

    Radio Invented
    Gugliemo Marconi invented the Radio in 1920, in his parents attic. Radios were the first wireless mode of communication. In 1906, Marconi shared the Nobel Prize for physics with Ferdinand Braun, in recognition of their contributions to the development of wireless telegraphy (radio).

    Tme Magizine first published
    Time magazine was created in 1923 by Briton Hadden and Henry Luce, making it the first weekly news magazine in the United States. The first edition featured speaker Joseph G Cannon, who was a retired speaker of the House of Representatives.
  • Amelia Earhart becomes first women to fly over Atlantic

    Amelia Earhart was born on July 24, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas. In 1928 she became the first women to fly over the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937. Amelia Earhart became the 16th woman to be issued a pilot's license, and helped paved the way for womens rights. She sadly mysteriously disappeared while trying to circumnavigate the globe from the equator.
