Bismarck saw France as the biggest threat He believed that France still wanted revenge for its defeat in the Franco-Prussian War. Bismarck’s first goal, was to isolate France. “France poses no danger to us.” In 1879, Bismarck formed the Dual Alliance between Germany and Austria- Hungary.

Three years after the creation of the Dual Alliance, Italy joined the two countries, forming the Triple Alliance. In 1881, Bismarck took yet another possible ally away from France by making a treaty with Russia.

In 1890 , Germany changed dramaticly. That year Kaiser Wilhelm II (two years earlier had became the ruler of Germany) forced Bismark to resign. Wilhelm did not want to share his power with anyone. He also wanted to show the world how powerful Germany has become.

From the lapse of the treaty , Russia responded by forming an alliance with france in 1892 and 1894. An alliance as such had been one of bismarks biggest fears. This alliance would make Germany an enemy of both.

Militarism was known as the policy of glorifying military power and keeping an army prepared for war. Having a large and strong army made citizens feel more powerful and patriotic. By 1914, all the great powers except Britain , had large standing armies.

Between March 1905 and 1906, Germany attempted to use Morroco's indeprendence to increase friction between France and the UK. Kieser supported France in this attempt to use the independence. The Algeciras Conference temporarily solved the Moroccan Crisis, but it only worsened the tensions between the Triple Alliance and Triple Entente, which then led to the first World War

This is the alliance between France, Brittian and Russia after the signing of the Anglo-Russian Entente. People do believe that this could have sparked the Great War. They did not promise to help eachother but they did encircle Germany and Austria-Hungry.

The political veiw of the assassination was to break off Austria-Hungary's south-Slav provinces so they could be combined into a Greater Serbia, or a Yugoslavia. Woodrow WIlson went before the congress on the second of april in 1917 to ask for a decleration of war with Germany.By 1914, Europe was divided into two camps. One alliance, the Triple Entente, which included, Great Britain, France, and Russia. The other, known as the Triple Alliance, included Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. Austria-Hungary’s declaration of war against Serbia set off a chain reaction to the alliance system and wars started everywhere.
