Andrew signs up to be a commando in the Dutch army
As a youth of 19 in 1947, Andy van der Bijl had become a commando in the Dutch East Indies when the Dutch were fighting Indonesian 'rebels'. He once single-handedly captured ten armed guerillas on sheer bravado. -

n 1967, he published the first edition of God's Smuggler, written with John and Elizabeth Sherrill. The book talks about Bible-smuggler behind the Iron Curtain.
