    William I becam the king of prussia. A year later Otto Von Bismarck was appointed to head the Prussian cabinet. Bismarck opposed democracy and the idea of a parliament. He had believed that the state should hold authority. He also wanted to expand prussia.

    The danish kind ruled the two duchies even though their constitutions made them separate from Denmark. King Christian IX took the danish throne in 1863. Both Prussia and Austria protested the Danish constitution and together they demanded that it be revoked.

    Bismarck prepared for a conflict with Austria as Prussian influence expanded. Bismarck provoked Austria into declaring war on Prussia in 1866. The treaty of Praque ended the seven weeks war in 1866. The german connfederation was dissolved. Austria surrendered Holstein to Prussia.

    Bismarck had to persuade the independent states in southern germany to join north german confederation. His oppurtunity came in 1870 when he recieved a telegram form king William. When the telegram was published, it so enraged the French that in July of 1870 they declared war on Prussia.

    the representative declared war with the allie Germn states wen they met in the hall of mirrors at the palace of vVersaillees near paris. The prussian capital of Berlin became the empires capital. the king of russia was proclaimed german emperor. Bismarck accepted a costitution that united the 25 german states.
