  • The Arrest of Rosa Parks

    In Alabama, the law stated that African Americans were to sit on the back of transportation busses, and give up their seat to Whites if the bus was full. Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white passenger and, therefore, was arrested (YAWP, Chapter 26, The Affluent Society).
  • Russia Launches Sputnik

    Sputnik was the world's first satellite send into orbit that was made by humans. This launching is responsible for the spark of the "Space Race" (YAWP, Chapter 25, The Cold War).
  • Bay of Pigs

    The goal of the Bay of Pigs invasion was to push Fidel Castro, Cuba's leader, from power. The CIA launched the attack during Kennedy's reign and, unfortunately, the attack failed (YAWP, Chapter 27, The Sixties).
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    On this day, American spies found out about the construction of launch sites for missiles. This stuck terror amongst the people of the United States, as everyone held a fear that a nuclear might break out (YAWP, Chapter 27, The Sixties).
  • John F Kennedy's Assassination

    John F Kennedy was shot in Dallas, Texas while riding in a convertible car through Dealey Plaza. Lee Harvey Oswald is the one who assassinated President Kennedy (YAWP, Chapter 27, The Sixties).
  • The Nixon Doctrine

    The Nixon Doctrine was discussed by President Richard Nixon in Guam during a press conference. The doctrine's goal was for there to be peace throughout all of America's allies (YAWP, Chapter 28, The Unraveling).
  • Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee from a balcony of a motel by James Earl Ray (YAWP, Chapter 26, The Unraveling).
  • End of the Vietnam War

    Communist forces seized the control of South Vietnam. NVA tanks entered the gate of the Presidential Palace in Saigon ending the almost-20 year war (YAWP, Chapter 28, The Unraveling).
