  • House of Burgesses Passes First Comprehensive Slave Code

    This slave code now ensured that enslavers would not be convicted of murder if they killed a rebellious slave.This code was used by enslavers to maximize the profit they earned from their slave.

    Slavery Becomes Increasingly Significant in Northern Colonies

    The first colony to have slaves was Massachusetts in New England. Slavery became increasingly significant in northern colonies due to the fact that the people in the northern colonies wanted to participate in the economy.
  • the Stono Rebellion

    A rebellion consisting of about a group of 80 slaves headed to Florida while burning plantations on their way. During this rebellion, they also managed to kill 20 white settlers as they marched. This march ended unsuccessfully when local military captured the slaves in the rebellion and went on to execute or sell all of the slaves involved in the rebellion.

    Slavery is now legal in every northern colony making it easier for the people living in the northern colonies to participate in the economy alongside the southern colonies. About 40% of the population of Virginia (100,000) consists if enslaved Africans.

    Seven Years War

    Started in 1756 when a force of native allies and British colonists killed a French diplomat. Also known as the French and Indian War. This war ended with the peace treaties of Hubertusburg and Paris in 1763.

    Pontiac's War

    When some Native Americas from the territories of the Great Lakes, the Appalachians, and the Mississippi River were not satisfied with British policies in the Great Lakes. The Natives lost the war, but peace was made by Pontiac and British official William Johnson.
  • Sugar Act

    Used as the beginning of Parliament's acts to levy taxes on sugar, paper, lead, tea, glass, and more. Followed by the Stamp Act and the Townshend Act.

    American Revolution

    This war was caused by the attempt to reform the British Empire after the Seven Years War. War ended with the help of the Treaty of Paris which demanded that the British troops leave the former slaves behind.
