2010 and 2011 Eastern European and North African Revolutions

  • Tunisia Rebellion

    The revolution began with a nationwide protest and rebels gradually gained control of several public spaces. The outcome was a death toll of over 220 and the ousting of the President and Prime Minister. Another outcome was the release of political prisoners.
  • Algerian Revolution

    this revolution consisted of major protests, riots, and road blockings. the death toll was 8 people and the outcome of it was the lifting of a ninteen year old state of emergency.
  • Libyan revolution

    the most violent of all the revolutions, with a death toll of 1,000 to more than 10,000, it consisted of nationwide protests, an armed revolt and occupation of cities. The outcome was the formation of the national transit council and a UN mandated intervention in support of the rebels.
  • Oman uprising

    this revolt only consisted of major protests but the outcome was the dismissal of ministers and the granting of law making powers to the Oman elected legistlature.
  • Yemen revolution

    The nationwide protests and riots causes the President to make political concessions and the announcement that he would no seek a second term. the death toll is over 150.
  • Egypt uprising

    the amount of people killed was/is between 302 and 684 people. it began with nationwide protests, occupation of public places and rebel attacks on public buildings. The outcome was the ousting of the President and the Prime Minister, assumption of power by the armed forces, suspension of the constitution and dissolution of the Parliment.
  • Syria Revolt

    the uprising consisted of major protests and the outcome was a death toll of 27 to more than 126 people. The result was the release of political prisoners and the resignation of the government.
  • Iraq rebellion

    The revolt was rebel attacks on official buildings, riots, and major protests. The amount of deaths was 35 and the outcome was the resignation of povincial governors and local authorities.
  • Iran revolt

    this revolt consisted of major protests and only 4 deaths occured. The end result was only the arrest of opposition leaders by the Iran government.
  • Bahrain Revolution

    This revolt consisted of major public demonstrations and rebel occupation of public spaces. The result was 24 deaths and the release of political prisoners, dismissal of ministers, and GCC intervention at the request of the Bahrain government.
