According to Document 12 even if you were the best politician you couldn’t bear office if you were black. This was a power play for the whites. They could make any law they wanted and the slaves couldn’t revolt. Also the Free Africans couldn’t bear office even if they were free.

It was the law that all the other laws were trying to get to. It said that slaves were now not human, but were considered houses or land. The Plantation Owners like this law because they could sell and buy slaves. This showed Diminishing Progress because it said hat slaves were real estate and could be treated as such.
