This law said that slaves could be killed for punishment. Act 1 allowed slaves to be killed by their masters. It showed Diminishing Progress because slaves were now considered not human. The Plantation Owners loved this because they could kill slaves for punishment without breaking the law or having to go to court. This law said that slaves or Negros can’t bear office. This law was a part in Diminishing Progress because it said that if you were black you couldn’t bear office. According to Document 12 even if you were the best politician you couldn’t bear office if you were black. This was a power play for the whites. They could make any law they wanted and the slaves couldn’t revolt. Also the Free Africans couldn’t bear office even if they were free. -

This law said that all Slaves and American Indians were real estate. This was the final law in Diminishing Progress at this time span. It was the law that all the other laws were trying to get to. It said that slaves were now not human, but were considered houses or land. The Plantation Owners like this law because they could sell and buy slaves. This showed Diminishing Progress because it said hat slaves were real estate and could be treated as such.
