James Watt was born on 19 January 1736. He was a mathematical instrument maker at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. In 1765, he improved the steam engine to run faster and more efficiently. This improvement has changed the way steam boats and trains operate. He died on 25 August 1819.

Willaim Wilberforce was a member of the British Parliament. He led the movement to end slavery in Britain. In 1825, he retired from Parliament but still continued his work to free the slaves. The slaves were freed in 1833.

Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels both wrote The Communist Manifesto. The pamphlet described the Industrial Revolution widen the gap between the wealthy and the poor. From this Marx created communism which is a complete from of socialism. In a communist country, all wealth, goods, and services are shared equally among the people. There is also no government once a country reaches a pure form of communism.
