10 significant literacy moments

  • First speaking

    I started to speak for the first time using words and making a short sentence. My mom was very impressed that I talk when I was 14 months old.
  • First reading a book by myself

    I read a book by myself since my mother was reading and speaking kindergarten teacher, she taught me how to read at home and she read me a book every night before I go to bed.
  • First writing perfectly especially my name

    I started write a short sentence and write my name perfectly. For the writing skills I was tahgt by my mother and my kindergarten teacher.
  • Birthday card to my dad

    I wrote my first birthday card to my dad and she still has that card with him. Grammar or spelling was not perfect but still made sense.

    When I was 6th grade, I wrote about life story of my grandfater for the given assignment. I got an award for the essay I wrote and got an opportunity to read it to my classmates.
  • New life at Australia

    I moved to Australia with my mother, aunt, and younger cousin. It was my first time to use another language to communicate with other people. I faced so many difficulties telling people what I want or need.
  • New life at United States

    I moved to United States with my parents after I went back to Korea from Australia. Life in United States was much easier than in Australia since I used English in Australia. My English is still not perfect like native speakers here.
