The Louisiana Purchase was the biggest peice of land we bought during the time of Manifest Destiny. Thomas Jefferson was reluctant to buy the Louisiana Teritory because he thought he was abusing his power and violating the constitiution. We had want the territory so badly that we were willing to pay $15,000,000 for it, and that's what we did. Today the Louisiana Purchase is made up of 15 different states including Louisiana, Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, and Montana.

  • The War of 1812

    The War of 1812
In the war of 1812 we fought for many reasons against the British. This war is now known by many names, such as the Forgotten War and the War of Bad Communication. The war took place in three main battefields: in the Atlantic Ocean, along the American-Canadian border, and in the Southern part of America along the Gulf Coast. Even though the war last over two years, it ended in a stalement with the Treaty of Ghent. Although neither side won the war, it changed both countries forever.
  • Florida territory

    Florida territory
Florida was the last territory in the Southeast of North America owned by Spain. Andrew Jackson was ordered to prevent slaves from going to Florida, but instead he attacked Florida. When Spain complained, John Quincy Adams defended Jackson and bullied Spain into signing the Adams-Onis treaty. The Adams-Onis treaty gave America the Florida territory and a claim to Oregon territory, and gave Texas to Spain. America obtaining Florida eventually led to the Indian Removal Act.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine stated that no countries, mainly Britain, could not enter North American or South America. Our 5th President, James Monroe, signed and created the doctrine to prevent other countries from entering our nation. This was to support the idea of Westward Expansion, and to keep people from getting there before our citizens could. Preventing British from land claims prevented wars from starting. The Monroe Doctrine helped America expand west with less difficulty.
  • Indian Removal Act and Trail of Tears

Indian Removal Act and Trail of Tears
The Indian Removal Act forced Indians out of their homes and on a route to Oklahoma called the Trail of Tears. Andrew Jackson was the President to sign the act and is viewed as both a hero and villian today for it. There were 5 main tribes included in the removal, and they were the Cherokee, Seminole, Creek, Chikasaw, and Chalktaw. When the Indians were forced to move to Oklahoma, they took a route called the Trail of Tears, different for all tribes. Today we know that this act was not just.
  • Republic of Texas

    Republic of Texas
Texas had an interesting story compared to the other states. Originally Texas was a part of Spain but broke of into their own country later called the Republic of Texas. Texas had originally asked to be a part of America. After nine years of independence Texas finally entered our nation. Today, Texas beleives that America is lucky to have Texas, not Texas is lucky to be a part of America.
  • The Oregon Territory

    The Oregon Territory
The Oregon Territory was shared by many countries, including Britain and America, so America decided they wanted to fight for it. We came up with the logo "54-40 or fight" because that was the line of latitude we wanted. Eventually we compromised on the 49th parallel instead of going to war. By buying the Oregon Territory we comleted Manifest Destiny. The Oregon Territory was very important to Manifest Destiny.
