  • Louisana Purchase

America nearly doubled with this purchase for just 15 million dollars. Jefferson made a huge move to almost get a 1/3 of the U.S. today.
  • War of 1812

A French and British dispute that the U.S. got involved. While we Americans worked with the French, and the British worked with the natives. We won and nationalism grew, as the Federalist Party fell.
  • Missouri Compromise

I believe this was the start of the coming of the Civil War. This was to maintain the sectional balance between free, and slave states. Also this ended the Democratic-Republican party, that was in control for about 20 years
  • U.S. gets a part of Florida

The Spanish was in control of Florida for awhile, but had to trade it to America for money(5 million)
  • Monroe Doctrine

This was a step towards peace with other countries. The doctrine stated that American would not get involved in any foreign affairs, and foreign wars.

    Trail of Tears

The Natives were getting pushed, and removed out of there land for multiple years before. But this was the biggest removal yet. Many died due to starvation, and sickness, on the journey. Also they had to go, and they had no choice.
  • Texas Rebellion

This was a lot for Texas, and Texas people. They just declared independence from Mexican government, and they were not happy. Multiple battles occurred, like Battle of Alamo, that kicked it offed. Also Sam Houston wanted to get Texas, as a U.S. state but they had so much debt, and is would upset the balance with free and slave states.
  • Period: to

    Mexican American War

Both Mexico, and the U.S. wanted the boundaries of California, and Texas. Wasn't a huge war, due to it ended couple years after it started, by the treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo. But yet again it messed with the balance of slavery, and free states
  • California Gold Rush

The California was a big part of getting people to start to come west. People would start to do anything to get to California, like leaving there families, or go around South America. This helped the U.S. grow, and made the economy grow majorly in California.
  • Compromise of 1850

This admitted California as a free state, and restricted Washington D.C. to have a any slave trading. This made more problems with the North, and South states, as they were trying to help it.
