The United Kingdom makes the North sea into a military area, creating a blockade for goods going into Germany. -
RMS Lusitania is sunk by German U-boat.
The Lusitania was sunk by a German submarine off the coast of Ireland. 1,198 passengers out of 1,959 were killed during the incident, including 128 Americans. Germany later justified the attack by the 173 tons of war munitions on board the ship that was going to aid Britain. -
