    He held significant infleunce over the military. In 1913 he was made inspector general of the Austro-Hungarian armed forces. On the 28th of June 1914 he and his wife were assasinated by a member of Young Bosnia. This assasination led to the July Crisis, which ended in Austro-Hungary declaring war against Serbia and both their allies doing the same.
