  • Canadian war enlistment (+1)

    Canada had less men in the work force, but they built up their military and made it strong with many men enlisting in the war.

  • Lt. Col. Borden’s letter (+2)

    Lt. Col. Borden did a good job of persuading families to send their men to the war by showing them the benefits of the outcome

  • Women on the home front (-1)

    Women were forced to do the job of men, since they were at war. They had to work full time and get paid very little, while taking care of their whole family at home

  • WWI recruitment posters (+2)

    There were recruitment posters that were put up across Canada to raise awareness of the war and that they needed soldiers. These posters were effective, and many men enlisted in the war.

  • The economy and the home front (0)

    The government put a tax law in place and Canadians were faced with expensive taxes on certain things. This boosted the economy in some parts but weakened it in others. Canadians did not like this new law.

  • Enemy aliens and the home front (-2)

    People who were not Canadian born or people of a different race were paid less money and were treated unfairly. Some were put into camps where they had to do dangerous jobs and make little money. These people were also not allowed to vote. They were looked down upon and this created racial discrimination.

  • Conscription and the Home Front (-2)

    Canada needed to send more recruitment's for the war, as many men were dying. They put a law in place where every man between the ages of 20 and 45 had to go to war. Many people were against going to war. The French Canadians felt they had nothing to do with the war. The whole Canadian nation was upset about this law that came into place

  • Jeremiah Jones (+2)

    One of few black Canadian soldiers who saved his whole unit from an attack. He gained respect for all black Canadians during the war.

  • Overseas war nurses (+1)

    Nurses worked overseas to save the lives of soldiers and help heal their wounds. They worked in camps and they were not paid very much. They did help revive many soldiers and heals wounds though, and played a big role in the war.

  • The war in the air (+2)

    Closer to the end of the war, Canada had more planes and pilots to help fight in the war. This gave them a big advantage and played a big role in helping them win.

  • The end of the war (+2)

    Canada had won the war. All men could return home to their families and jobs, women could go back to their normal duties, and nobody had to worry about the war anymore.
