    Assassination of the Archduke
    Two bullets were fried on sarvajevo street on a June morning in 1914, the victims; Archduke Franz Ferdinand- heir to the trong of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and his wife Sophie. The couple were returning from an official visit to City Hall. The assasin, 19 year-old Gavrillo Pricip burned with the fire of Slavic nationalism. He thought that the death of the Archduke as was the key that would unlock the shackles binding his people to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

    When WW1 broke out in Europe, Woodrow Wilson announced that the United States would stay out of European affairs and remain neutral. He issued a declaration of US neutrality and called upon the American people to support his policy by not taking sides. He hopes tha thte U.S would rmain neutral and continue to trade with warring nations.

But President Woodrow Wilson’s war aims went beyond the defense of U.S. maritime interests. In his War Message to Congress, President Wilson declared that the U.S. objective was “to vindicate the principles of peace and justice in the life of the world.”
