The Germans made over 120,000 machine guns to use in conflict before WWI. Without the acceptance of the machine gun the Germans would use the resource for other purposes, most likely to create new weapons,

Without the machine gun the French generals would stick with offensive styles of tatics to keep the warfare short and simple.

At this date the Germans would produce 70,000 grenades and 106,000 rifle grenades. Without the use of grenades the supplies used to create the grenades would be used for ammo of rifles.

During the war artillery was widespread and often times killed many troops and sometimes civilians. Without this addition many lives would be spared from the brutality of the weapon.
