World War I

  • Archduke Killed

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated. His assassination was one of the causes leading up to the war. Archduke's wife was also assassinated that day as well. A Serbian nationalist had assassinated Archduke and his wife. Because of this, the whole Austro-Hungarian Empire went to blame the whole country of Serbia.
  • Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia

    After the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, the whole country of Austria-Hungary blames Serbia. A Serbian man had assassinated Archduke and his wife. The Austro-Hungarians wanted to do a investigation them self on Archduke's assassination, and Serbia allowed them to. Serbia only accepted all of the Austria-Hungary's commands but Serbia had a condition to alloy this. Serbia said that Austrian government had to break up in order for Austria-Hungary to do what they wanted.
  • First use of gas as a weapon by the Germans

    The German forces used a type of weapon which the other armies didn't think of, gas as a weapon. The first time the Germans used gas it would fire more than 150 tons of lethal chlorine gas. The Allies didn't know that the gas was going to be in the battle(s), nor did they know how lethal it would be, so it was very devastating for the Allies with many dead.
  • Sinking of the Lusitania

    The Lusitania was torpedoed by the Germans. There was no warning to do anything from the Germans, but instead the Germans randomly attacked the Lusitania. In 20 minutes, the Lusitania had sank. 1,959 people where on the ship, and 1,198 drowned. The Germans used a submarine to torpedo and attack the Lusitania.
  • Wilson reelected; pledged American neutrality

    Wilson had a slogan, "He Kept Us Out of War." Wilson wanted to make America neutral with the war, but some Americans didn't agree. During Wilson's election, the Allies had sympathy, so they gave Wilson more votes.
  • Zimmermann Note

    The Zimmerman Note (or the Zimmermann Telegram) was a telegram from the German government. The telegram's purpose was to persuade the Mexicans to go to war with America. Germany wanted to make an alliance with Mexico. But, before the telegram could reach Mexico, Great Britain found out about the telegram. Great Britain warned America, and now the Americans know about the telegram, and the Americans where very angry.
  • U.S. declares war (April 1917)

    After the Zimmerman Note incident, the Americans became angry. President Wilson ask the Congress for a declaration of war against Germany. The Congress allies the declaration of war. Most of the Congress agreed to the declaration of war, but a few other people in the Congress didn't. Some Americans didn't want to go to war as many others did.
  • Bolsheviks led by Lenin overthrow Russian government

    The Bolsheviks leader, Vladimir Lenin, led his troops in a revolt against the Provisional Government. This revolt and others in Russia made the Tsarist autocracy to crumble. This led to the rise of the Soviet Union. This made the Russian Empire fall and collapse.
  • War ends (November 11, 1918)

    November 11, 1918, the great World War I ends. When the war ended, it left 9 million soldiers dead and 21 million wounded in Germany,Russia,Austria-Hungary,France,and Great Britain. Now, after the war, 5 countries come to meet in Paris,France.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    After World War I ended, was the beginning of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. The treaty had rules if it went threw. If it went threw, then Germany would have to take full blame for World War I. Germany would also have to take down the armed station and disband all there empires. Though, the treaty did not go threw, since most Americans thought that what Germany had to do was very harsh.
