    Leading up to WWI

    There are numerous events that lead up to the beginning of War World I. Some key events are listed below: 1882: Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy form and Triple Alliance.
    1891: The Russian Empire and France form their own alliance in respondence to the Triple-Alliance.
    1898:Germany begins to build up its Navy to challenge British Naval supremecy.
    January 1902:Britian and Japan form an naval alliance.
    April 1904: France and Britian have a mutual military agreement in the event of a war.

    Continious Years Up to WWI

    January 1905: "Bloody Sunday" Russian troops fired upon peaceful demonstrators in St. Petersburg, killing hundreds of innocent people.
    May 1905: Russia is defeated by Japanese, postponing Russia's ambitions to Manchuria and Korea.
    Febuary 1906: Britian begins to build big-gun battleships; Germany follows in pursuit. Arms race begins.
    August 1907: British reach agreement with Russia.
    1910: Germany passes Britian as leading manufaturing country in Europe. U.S is world leader.
    War erupts 1914.

    Austria declares war on Serbia after the assassination of Archduke. Austria believed that Serbia had sent the assassin to kill the Archduke and his wife.

    The first major gas attack by Germany. The attack was on the French that were located in Belgium. The Germans released a posionous chlorine gas that created a 5 mile gap between the two front facing armies.

    Allied troops land in Gallipoli to gain access back to Russia through the Black Sea. 70,000 landing troops. The Peninsula is heavily defended with Turkish troops. Allies fail to gain any objective and Turkish begin to drive out Allies.

    The Italians enter the war with Allie powers by declaring war with Austria-Hungary. Italians launch offensives on border between Austria and Italy. Austria takes control of the mountains. Italians then refocus.

    Battle of Verdun Germany attacks the French on the north of the city of Verdun. A 9 hour artilery bombardment, Germans seek to "bleed" the French Army. Germans over run bombed out French trenches and capture Fort Douaumont without firing a shot, four days later.

    Battle of Jutland German and British naval fleets collide in the North Sea causing the battle of Jutland. Both sides try but fail to gain a victory. The British lure the Germans northward and blast the ships. 14/151 British ships are sunk while 11/99 German ships were sunk. Both claimed a victory.

    Battle of Somme The Allies begin artillery bombardment of German defense on Somme River in north France. A week long battle. 18,800 total of soldier fatality. The battle's objective was to blow apart German trench systerm.

This event was a major turn in the war because it introduced motorized heavy artilery that was never used on a British battlefeild before. British renew the Somme offensive and attack Germans and advance 200o yards with the tanks.

    New Policy Germans resume unrestricted submaine warfare around the British Isles, which triggered the Americans joining the war.
  • America Enters the War

    U.S enters United States declares war on Germany. Changing the odds of the opposing powers, allowing the Allied powers have an upper hand in the War.

    Red October Italy goes into battle with Axis powers as the powers cross the Isonzo River. 300,000 Italians surrender as the Austro-Germans advance while 400,000 desert. Austro-Germans halt at the Piave River due to supply lines.
  • Victory At Cambrai

    Victory Triggered by the first ever mass attack occurs as the British army attacks on German Cambrai. British roll 381 tanks accompanied by infantry divisons in attack on German trenches. Allies gain 6 mile wide portion of the front and 2 German divison wrecked. Germans return with heavy reinforcments and take back most of what they lost.

    Treaty Soviet Russia signs treay with Germany ending its participation in war. Begining the end of WWI. There are harsh terms that are given by the Germans.
  • Break Through On Somme

    Breakthrough Germany begins all for nothing for the victory or the war begins with a battle along a 60 mile front of the Somme.

    Independance Czechs declare independance from Austria. Slovakia declares independance from Hungary . Czechloslovakia is formed.

    Armistice Germany signs Armistice with Allies. Last shots were fired in war.
