Germany declares war on Russia. This is because Russia proceeded to a general mobilization. If Germany didn't win, they were putting Germany in danger for a crisis. -

Longest battle of WW1 was the battle of Verdun. This also was the bloodiest war or WW1. This made General Philippe Pétain a hero of France. -

Germany sends the "secret" Zimmermann Telegram to Mexico to entice Mexico to join the war. Germany said that if Mexico joined the war and fought on their side, they would get Texas back from the U.S.. Mexico disagreed and was loyal to the U.S.. -
