  • Russian-Serbian alliance complete

    Russia and Serbia became alliances on January 4, 1894. But during World War 1 Russia announced that they would help defend there ally.
  • Franco - Russian Alliance

    In 1894 they formed the Franco-Russian Alliance. This agreement stated that both sides would consult eachother if either nation were threatened by another nation. They stayed allies until 1917.
  • Entente Cordiale (England, France)

    Agreement to settle past colonial differences. This was less formal than a formal alliance.
  • Archduke Franz Ferdinand assassination

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand assassination
    The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was what you would say "The spark of World War 1". His death was caused by a member of the Black Hand. The man that killed Ferdinand was from Serbia so Austria-Hungary blamed them.

    A full month later Austria declares war on Serbia and starts the beginning of the first world war.

    When Germany invaded they moved across the western Europe putting into plan the Schlieffen Plan. The Belgium army was swept away and that made the British army retreat to the Battle of Mons. The German army was nearly 30 miles away from Paris. The French army was under the command of Joseph Joffre. They were retreating for two weeks. They were in an area south of the river Marne. Joffre decided for an attack and it worked making the German army to retreat.

    The battle of mons was a major battle in world war one. It was one of the first times that they started using trench warfare. Germany invaded Belgium. British tried to defend.

    The ship Lusitania set sail for Liverpool not knowing that it was going to sink. They were given a warning not to sail in the European warzone but the disregaurded the warning because the ship has no military value. Many people had there doubts but they certainly changed there thoughts as they saw celeberties and rich people boarding the ship. The ship had 1,900 people on board and 1,100 parished.

    David Lloyd George becomes the British Prime minister and was also present at the treaty of Versailles.

    Kaiser William II is abdicated from the throne.

    The war ended when Germany signed an armistice with the Allies.
