    Departments Created for Co-Ed Soccer Teams
    WMU has started a intramural co-ed soccer league. A men's soccer team has not been created or even started at an intercollegiate level. However, the games were postponed due to weather. Daily games were scheduled in the afternoon for however long the league lasted. (Courtesy of WMU archives)

    What is Wrong with Soccer?
    An article in the Western Herald was published about why soccer was not yet a sport yet at WMU. Two reasons were lack of interest by students, and that high schools did not include soccer in their P.E. departments, which resulted to not enough training for the sport. However, there was still hope that soccer could possibly become a sport with Michigan State starting a soccer team in 1956. Schools in the Midwest had soccer which more at intercollegiate levels.     Walwood Hall Remains Undefeated in Intramural Soccer
    Residents of Walwood Hall, a residence hall on campus, have participated in all intramural sports at WMU. They have remained undefeated in intramural soccer, which could potentially mean more involvement and creation of an official team.

    Soccer Adds New Dimension to WMU Sports

    Head coach Pete Glon wrote the season off as a rebuilding year for the soccer team. Their overall results were 2 wins and 10 losses.     Team holds an 8-6 overall record

    The first time in history at WMU that the men's soccer team qualified for the NCAA Tournament. The team lost 1-4. Link text

    Men's Soccer Heading to NCAA Sweet 16
    WMU was given a No. 10 overall in this season's bracket for men's soccer. The team defeated the University of Albany by 2-0 on Nov. 19. The team suffered a lost against Michigan State 2-1 of the NCAA Tournament. (Courtesy of MLive archives)
