    Franz Ferdinand and his wife were visiting Sarajevo. During their visit, several terrorists who were trained by a Serbian group waited for them. A bomb was hurled at their car but didn't get close enough to kill them. At the time, Prez Wilson sent Edward House to Europe to learn more about growing strains among European powers. This event is significant because it set off a chain reaction and led to Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia.

    U-boat attacks for real
    Germany found a way to challenge the British blockade by using submarine attacks. Their deadly new weapon was the U-boat, short for "undersea boat". The Germany navy hoped this new weapon would break the British blockade and at the same time stop vital supplies from reaching allies.

    Down goes the Lusitania
    The British steamship "Lusitania" was torpedoed and sunk by Germany. Over 100 American citizens lost their lives aboard the ship. The United States were furious with Germany, and wanted them to understand the grave situation. The US was on high seas.

    Goodbye, Arabic
    Germany sank a second British ship, the Arabic, killing two Americans. Wilson sent another more sharpy worded protest to Germany who responded by saying they wouldn't sink anymore passenger ships without warning. At the time, American was siding with Germany.

    Germany told America after the sinking the Arabic that they wouldn't sink anymore ships. About 7 months later they broke their promise and sunk the Sussex. We told Germany that we would end all relations with them if the attacks continued.

    Mexico, Texas< Arizona, and the United States were all involved in the submarine warfare, but it was our intention to keep nuetral the United States of America. The United States propsed to have an allaiance with Mexico

    Woodrow Wilson says, leggo
    On Aril 2nd, 1917 Prez Wilson declared that the US couldn't stay neutral and felt that we should get involved for sure. He just wanted to make sure all other countries was secure. This is significant because its like the president declaring war.
