The 13 colonies.
The Americans conquered the 13 colonies by winning the war with Great Britian. The American Revolution ended on September 3, 1783 -
The Northwest territory.
When the Americans won the American Revolution they also gained the Northwest territory and this is now current day Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. -
Louisana Purchase.
The Louisana Purchase was purchased in 1803 and president Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisana territory from France general Napoleon Bonaparte fro $15 million dollars. The Americans needed the Louisana land so they could control the Mississippi River. -
Adams-Onis Treaty
The Adams-Onis treaty was signed under president James Monroe after Andrew Jackson unconstitutionally went into Florida and invaded. This gave the United States most of Florida. -
Texas Annexation
..- a political advantage and during this time the number of slave states and free states were equal. -
Texas Annexation
Texas became its own country and people in the South started to go to Texas because slavery was legal and the Texas government promised to never ban slavery. The people who moved into Texas had to obey Mexican laws and they didnt allow slaves to be harbored into the new country. Eventually slavery was illegal and you could only be Roman Catholic. The United States did not allow Texas to become a state again because slavery was legal in Texas and this outraged the North and gave the South a...... -
Oregon Territory.
The Americans shared the Oregon territory with Indians, Great Britain, Russia, and Spain. The United States were trying to avoid another war with Great Britain and they signed a treaty giving both countries the right to the land. Oregon and Washington were the two states created out of this territory. -
Mexican Cession
Mexico was upset with the United States over the Texas annex so they cut off all ties with the United States, Mexico also removed American settlers and sent them back to the United States. The treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the Mexican-American war. California, Nevada, and Utah were the United States created out of the Mexican Cession. -
Gadsden Purchase.
The United States paid $10 million dollars for the southern part of Arizona and New Mexico. This fixed the North American boarder and the continental bounderies. Finally westward expansion was complete.
