  • Arrival at Ellis Island

    Arrival at Ellis Island
After so much persecution in South India towards my Christianity and a business that wasn’t prospering, oh what a joyous occasion it is when I, Vikram Terengganu, arrive at Ellis Island in order to start up my life in America. The feeling of making it is indescribable. The grand Statue of Liberty is so beautiful that I can’t take my eyes off of her. Here I hope to restart my Indian antique store and gain a profit from it.
  • It is Time to Leave!

    It is Time to Leave!
I am disgusted with the conditions of America! What I thought would be a peaceful clean place for all with equality or all has shown me none of that. Upon my arrival at Ellis Island, a boy greeted us rudely. The people at the station seem to be of higher class but talk in a weird sound of voice. In the streets where I live, I am no longer to sell much of my trade, and I am constantly hungry and cold. The people here treat us, the immigrants, like animals calling names and always harassing us.
  • We've Made it to Wyoming!

    We've Made it to Wyoming!
After a long journey by train and much of my profits lost, I’ve made it to Wyoming. Upon arrival, a feeling of pride and freedom has overwhelmed me and I am eager to get on track. I was able to purchase land and construct my house with the help of my new friends. The people here are pleasant and allow me to practice my Christianity freely unlike in India and New York.
  • Business is Booming!

    Business is Booming!
Since my move to Wyoming in the West, things have been fine! I was able to claim my own piece of land and start up my business once again. With the increased number of people settling in the west, I am able to sell much and establish a place in my community quickly. The people here are also very kind eager to buy from me. Some of my regular buyers actually helped my build my house and store when I came. I finally feel secure in America.
  • Robbers!?!

    Robbers!?!
My unawareness of the robbers and bandits in my area has placed me in quite a difficulty. A couple of days ago I was robbed at what was probably in my sleep. The bandits took many of my valuables including my silver spoons, and kadai. The loss has left me wondering if the West is as safe as it should be.
  • Immigration Act

    Immigration Act
The Immigration Act of 1917 is outrageous and has caused frustration among immigrants everywhere. The increase in taxes for immigrants from $4 to $8 as angered many. It has made it hard for me to run my business successfully due to the lack of money to maintain my wares shop. I believe that there is a link between the decisions by the government and the World War that has just irrupted.
