  • Louisiana Purchase

    This purchase of land from France cost the United States $15 million and doubled the size of the country towards the west.
  • Indian Removal Act

    Indian Removal Act
    This act was signed into affect by President Jackson declaring unsettled land west of Mississippi was the designated area for Native Americans to go.
  • Cherokee v Georgia

    A group of Cherokee Indians went to court against Georgia for passing laws that limited their rights. The court ruled Indians weren't citizens, they were a "domestic dependent nation"
  • Treaty of New Echota

    A Cherokee tribe leader, Major Ridge, proposed a treaty for the purchase of Cherokee land to government officials in Washington D.C there was an agreement for $5 million to purchase the land. Cherokee Chief John Ross disapproved of the treaty but was overlooked and Jackson began removing Indians. The treaty was ratified in 1836
  • Seminole war

    1835-42 One of the few wars between the United States and the Seminole people. Thousands of men were sent to war and the outcome was the Seminole people being moved to Indian Territory
  • Trail of Tears

    Thousands of Indians were forced to move west hundreds of miles, from the east coast to Oklahoma. This migration last from the Summer of 1838 to the winter of 1889. Conditions of the move were rough and diseases and other factors left a great deal of Indians on the trails, never making it to the final destination
  • Sand Creek Massacre

    Over one hundred Native Americans were killed by the U.S. Calvary led by Colonel Chivington, most of the victims being women & children.
  • General Custer's Death

    Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull led an army of two thousand Indians to a battle against General Custer and the seventh US Calvary. When Custer underestimated the size of the Indian army, his Calvary and he were defeated
  • Wounded Knee Massacre

    After the death of Sitting Bull the Seventh Calvary opens fire at a crowd of Sioux Indians, killing hundreds ofimdians, a large number of them being women and children
  • Ghost Dance

    Ghost Dance
    A religious ritual done by Native Americans in hope for an age of prosperity and peace.
