    During this time, Merriweather lewis and William Clark were exploring the Louisiana Purchase, trying to find a route to the Pacific. They came back, having made great explorations, but still failing to have found a water route to California.

    On this date Florida became Part of the US. Before, Florida had been owned by Spain, but the United states told them to get out, and they left it to the US.

    On this date, president Andrew Jackson authorized the removal of the indians from near the east coast. The Indians were removed to reservaations, and many died in what became known as the trail of tears.

    The Mexican American war started in a dispute over some of the southwestern states. United states and Mexican forces fought until the US Invaded Mexico City and forced the Mexicans to sign the treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, which gave the US contol of California, New mexico, Texas Colorado, and some other states.

    On this date the transcontinental railroad was completed at Promotory Point, in Utah. This made it so you could travel all the way across the US in a few days.
