    The Indian Removal Act of 1830 moved many tribes out of their origanal homelands and brought them to the western part of the U.S. The Act promised Native Americans land that would not be taken from them. Later during the Westward Expansion the U.S. went back on their word and gave land the white settlers.

  • Texas Revolution

    After many United States citizens moved into the Texas mexican territory they found out that slavory was outlawed. Extremely angered about this they started the Texas rebellion to make Texas a independent nation. Many Americans moved west to Texas with their slaves for farmland.
  • Panic of 1837

    Panic of 1837
    The Panic of 1837 was an extreme reccesion that lasted about six years. Most of the U.S. blamed President Martin Van Buren. At this time many people where fleeing to the west to look for better opprutunities to get some money.
  • Great Migration of 1843

    The time during the end of the Panic of 1837 when over 700 people headed for Oregon was called the Great Migration od 1843. Many people left their homes, sold their belongings, bought a wagon, and left for a new life.
  • Annexation of Texas

    Annexation of Texas
    After the Mexican-American War, Texas was added to the Untied States of America. Texas imedeatly became a slave state and people moved there with their families and their slaves bringing the domestic slave trade west.
  • Oregon Boundary Dispute

    The Oregon Boundary dispute was an argument between the United States and Great Britain over the boundary line between Oregon and Canada. When Americans moved west towards Oregon on the Oregon trail they were looking for, more land to farm and new places to trade. The Oregon settlers were squatting on the Oregon land already claimed by British Canadian settlers.

    After Mormon were driven out of every home they had in the current U.S. many moved west. Utah was a new home for many Mormons. Between 1837 and 1860 over 40,000 mormons moved into the Utah territory.
  • California Gold Rush

    When gold was discovered in Califorina it sparked a large increase in people moving west so they could get rich quick after the recession. The population on Califorian and the rest of the west incresed dramatically.
  • Califorina: Compromise of 1850

    Califorina: Compromise of 1850
    When California statehood was first brought to congress the idea was to divide the state in half, northern free and southern slave allowing. California citizens did not want to be split and wanted to be completely anti-slavery. Because Califorina was a golden opputunity for the U.S. the allowed it to be free and gave the south the fugitive slave laws.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    The creation of the Kansas and Nebraska territories sparked the disscusion of slave vs. free territoires. The government decided to give them popular soverty and let the people living in those territories the right to vote them free or slave allowing. The results angered dsome citizens and lead to Bleeding Kansas, which some believe to be a precurser to the Civil War.
