    The United States purchased 828,000 square miles of France's territory. The U.S. paid 15 million dollars for the Louisiana Territory. It helped the United States expans by bringing many acres of new land to the U.S natiion that people could live on.
  • Erie Canal Finished

    Erie Canal Finished
    The Erie Canal ran about 363 miles. It was a water route connecting New York City and the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes. The Canal was under construction from 1817 until 1825. It helped America expand by providing a water route from the Eastern Seaboard to the Great lakes. It was a way to move goods across the U.S. efficiently by water.
  • Indian Removal Act

    Indian Removal Act
    The Indian Removal Act was a law passed when Andrew Jackson was president. The law said that the Native Americans in the Southern United States were to be removed to the west of Mississippi in exchange for their homeland. Although it was bad for the Indians, it allowed the Americans to move into Indian territory which it expanded the United States.

    The Alamo
    The Texans camped out for 13 days until the Mexican Army was able to defeat them. It took the Mexican Army two failed attempts before they could overthrow the Texans at the Alamo. Mexico suffered around 600 casualties, and Texas suffered around 200. The Battle lead to Texas's freedom from Mexico, and eventually its addition to the United States.

    Trail of Tears is when the Cherokee Tribe was forced out of their homelands and held at gunpoint. They traveled on foot, fighting off disease and starvation. This helped The United States expand by pushing people West so Georgia was open to more Americans.

    The Oregon Trail is when people traveled west so they can settle on new land and look for new life. The trail came wih many difficulties and many people died. This helped Americans expand in the West because once people started moving on the Oregon Trail, others followed.

    President John Tyler secured a treaty of annexation in 1844. Annex means to add as an extra or subordinate part. Many Texans wanted to ally with the United States, and agreed to become a part of the United States. This helped the United States expand by adding a large piece of land that people of the U.S. could move to and live on.

    The Mormon Trail was 1,300 miles long. The Mormon's had troubles with their neighbors so they decided to move west to Utah. Some other Americans didn't llike their views and beliefs. It helped the U.S. expand by moving many people out to Utah, into new land.

    Gold was first found at Sutter's Mill in California. People joined the gold rush in search of gold. They desired to strike it rich, but most didn't find much. It helped the United States expand because it brought over 300,000 people to the state. New railroads, and other transportation was built becasue of the Gold Rush.

    The Mexican Cession was when the Mexicans gave up all of California and New Mexico to The United States in search of peace. The United States paid Mexico in return. This helped the Americans Exspand out West by letting Americans move out into this new land that the United States now owned.

    Gadsden Purchase
    The Gadsden Purchase was a treaty between The United States and Mexico which stated that Mexico will give land in return for money. The land that was given was a part of Arizona and New Mexico, which became a strip of land used for railroad transportation. This helped the Untited States expand West by helping people make it to the West with the transportation and let people settle out there.
