    The Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 was a line set by the British after the French and Indian war. The treaty made with the Indian nations after the war allowed them a certain area of land which the Americans believed they deserved after they helped fight for it. After the Revolutionary War, the Americans began moving west in that territory which would begin the move out west for many Americans, making the expansion inevitable.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    In 1803, Thomas Jefferson's purchase of the Louisiana territory was a way to help the transport of items to different ports to be sold. This would lead to more people moving out west because of the growth in the industry for America. This would prove expansion inevitable.
  • Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Lewis and Clark Expedition
    After the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, Thomas Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to find a route to the Pacific Ocean. Their expedition would lead to many people moving out west because of their discoveries and make expansion inevitable.

    The Fur Trade between 1820-1840 was a way for many to earn a living in the mid 19th century. Many men that lived in the Midwest earned their living by trapping certain animals and selling their fur and hide for money. This would lead to inevitable expansion as it would grow the trading industry in the country.

    The Manifest Destiny was the belief that it was the Americans God given right to claim all the land between the east and west coast. This caused many to begin the journey west towards new areas. The phrase Manifest Destiny was claimed by John L. O'Sullivan. This would make expansion inevitable as many believed God wanted them to move west.

    In 1846, a group of Mormon migrated west to escape persecution after the previous leader, Joseph Smith, was murdered by a mob in 1844. The migration of this religion would be inevitable as more and more were already moving west during the time period. This event proves expansion inevitable as the Americans had been moving west to escape persecution for years prior.

    The California Gold Rush was the discovery and search for gold in California in early 1848. This event would lead to many people moving west and expansion inevitable. Expansion would be inevitable as many people would want to move west to find gold and wealth.
