Acquisition of Florida- Treaty of Adam-Onis
The US was frustrates that slaves were running away to Florida territory that was owned by Spain. Seminoles were also raiding land to Georgia. Andrew Jackson was sent to patrol the border, but invaded Florida instead. In the end, President Monroe sent a message to Spain, “govern or get out.” The treaty was signed and we gained Florida. -
Missouri Compromise
The states that got added were Maine and Missouri. Maine was a free state and Missouri was a slave state. Something that was significant about this act was they banned slavery from any future territories. -
Trail Of Tears
Andrew Jackson ignored the orders of a treaty with the Cherokee. U.S. troops rounded up about 15,000 Cherokee and put them in prison camps. Local residents burned the native’s homes. Troops then sent the Cherokee west in groups of about 1,000 on a path known now as the Trail of Tears. -
Annexation Of Texas
Brief Description: Texas territory was initially owned by Spain. Mexico defeated SPain and gained the Texas territory. After a long revolution, Texas defeated Mexico and became its own country for ten years. The US decided to annex (add on) Texas in December of 1845 under President Polk. -

Brief Description: This was a treaty that was signed that ended the Mexican-American war. It established the border between Texas and Mexico as the Rio Grande river. It also gave the US the land known as the Mexican cession. This territory included California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada. -
Compromise of 1850
The person who created it was Henry Clay. It affected California, Utah, New Mexico, and the District of Columbia. It comprised that Free States - become a free state
Slave States - slave trade will become Illegal and Utah and New Mexico become slave states. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
The territories that got added were Kansas and Nebraska. The acts this had was they would allow slavery. It canceled the Missouri Compromise. -
Homestead Act
It promoted the settlement and development of America West. Each buyer get's 160 acres. Four rules you had to follow to get land is People who paid small filing fee, agreed to work on land, improve it, and had to be at least 21 years old. -
Transcontinental Railroad
The two railroads involved are The Union Pacific Railroad and The Central Pacific Railroad. The Union Pacific started in Omaha, Nebraska. The Central Pacific started in Sacramento, California. It’s important because when they made the railroads made the demand increase because of the imports and are economy expanded. -
