Arriving in America
I just arrived in America from China, only to find out that the expensive vases I brought from my home, were not worth anything to people here in America. So I am here with no money, which means no way to travel to my family. I am going to try to find a job anywhere I can. -
Railroads
After sleeping in the streets or living with people who I meet in my journey, I find a job working on the railroads. It was great, I just slept on the train and worked during the day. I made less pay than everyone else becasue of my race, but the pay was still fairly high. Well, it was enough. I need to find my family. -
Finding my Family
I found my family! They were settled in the west with many other Chinese immagrints. Since the recent "Chinese Exclusion Act" was just passed, me and my family have been getting in evern more trouble becasue of our race. I was fired from my job, but I needed to be with my family anyways. We all were together and thats what mattered. My older brother Chong had a job in a small shop which was not to far away. -
Killing
My family is dead. I have no one. My mother and my two brothers were killed. A group of white men with guns came in our area and killed my family and 20 others. Many of the white people are mad at as for staying here and taking many job oppertunitys. I can not stay here. I need to find somewhere to go, but I have no idea where to go. -
Finding a Job
It was almost impossible finding a job. After walking through town after town, a woman gave me a job working in her small sweatshop. There were many other people working there. I was allowed to live there and sleep upstairs. I usually didnt get payed and when I did, it wasnt much. -
Working hard
I am still working in the small shop but a woman has been comming in lately who I have been talking to more and more. -
Marrige
I met a woman who lives in town and her parents are 1st class and have endless land further out west. I have been with the girl for a few years and we are thinking about marriage. Her parents do not approve becasue of my race but we are planned to get married in June.
