  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    This Document was created in 1763 by the British. This document was made specifically to stop immigration west of the Appalachian Mountains so that the British would be the first to expand and explore in the land. It was also made to prevent conflict with the indians.
  • Northwest Territory

    Northwest Territory
    The Northwest territory was north of the Ohio River, and east of the Mississippi River, and south of the Great Lakes. The sale of this territory was aimed towards private individuals. In the New Northwest territory, slavery was excluded permanently. The Old Northwest eventually became the states of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

    This act took place in the spring of 1803. The original idea of obtaining land from the French was America offering no more than 10 million dollars for New Orleans and Florida. Although this was the original plan, America was offered an irresistible deal. The deal of the Louisiana Purchase was when two Americans, Livingston and Monroe, compromised with France. This deal consisted of America buying the Louisiana territory for 15 million dollars.This almost caused a depression in the US.

    The United States signed the Convention of 1818 with Great Britain in order to settle some issues from the Treaty of Ghent.This included jointly occupying the Red River Basin.
  • West & East Florida

    West & East Florida
    In 1819, Spanish minister Do Luis de Onis and U.S. Secretary of State John Quincy Adams signed the Florida Purchase Treaty, in which Spain agrees to give up west and east Florida to the United States.
  • Webster-Ashburton Treaty

    Webster-Ashburton Treaty
    An 1842 treaty that solved border problems between British North American colonies and the United States. Some places it solved border problems was the Maine border, and between Lake Superior and Lake of the woods.
  • Texas Annexation

    Texas Annexation
    Texas became part of the Union in December of 1845. Texas would be considered another slave state. The north had anti-expansionist views even though annexation was ideal for the south.
  • Oregon Territory

    Oregon Territory
    The Oregon territory was joint occupation between Britain and the United States in 1818. The “mountain men” and merchant mariners shared this land with the Indians. However, this treaty did not last very long. Problems began to rise between Europe and the United states, discontinuing the joint occupation.

    The land won by the US after the Mexican War, which included most of the SouthWest region which extended from California to New Mexico.
  • Gadsden Purchase

    Part of present day Arizona and New Mexico. This area included land that would be use to create a southern continental railroad.
  • Alaska

    In 1866 the Russian government offered the Alaskan territory to the United States.Edouard de Stoekl, the Russian minister negotiated a deal. On March 30, 1867, the two sides agreed that the United States would buy the Alaskan territory for $7.2 million dollars from Russia. This agreement was formally concluded with the Treaty of Cession sign by Tzar Alexander II.
