    He was an American physician and missionary in the Oregon Country. Him and his wife, Narcissa started a mission to the Cayuse in what is now southeastern Washington state in 1836. Which later the area developed as a trading post and a stop along the Oregon Trail.

    A land deal that was between the United States and France, which in the end the U.S. acquired approximately 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River for 15 million dollars.

Which apparently led to cannibalism to survive through the winter.
